Has anyone tried Vietnamese beef curry? There's a restaurant in downtown NYC (Nam Phong) with dishes that are so hot, some aren't included in the menu. You have to know the owner personally to order it. Even then, if you order it and don't finish your plate, the guy won't let you order it anymore. Now that's hot!

The Arab World vs. The Blackout Of 2003
by Latin assassin from Manhattan inyou can tell alot about a society by the way they act when the lights go out.
when the lights went out in iraq, looting was the first thing that took place.
not only did the citizens pillage hussein's palaces, they also destroyed each other's property as well.

This is not the 17th century and certainly not WWII Europe. The self-destruction of Iraqi infrastructure couldn't stop the Americans in any way. The army has it's own corps. of bridge building engineers, they have their own water filtration/electrical systems and they also have night vision. The Russians used the same tactic to stop the Germans from invading and capturing their cities. It did work. However, the Americans were not interested in 'invading' Iraq like the Germans when they invaded Austria and Poland. The objective of the U.S. was to destroy Saddam's armed forces and liberate the people - both have been accomplished. The U.S. has no interest in Iraq's infrastructure because the citizens need it more than we do. Obviously, Saddam's 'forces' couldn't fight like men, so they chose to destroy the property of their citizens instead.

Shortsighted? Not so. The previous blackout of 1965 was larger and there were fewer than 100 arrests. There was widespread looting throughout NYC in 1977 and there were fewer police available at that time due to severe budget cuts, the hardest hit area was Bushwick in Brooklyn. Even then, there were only 3,000 arrests in a city of how many millions? Either way, the ratio wasn't bad. At least the criminals got arrested. The Iraqi's can't even create their own police force without our help.
The fact of the matter is that we handled 2 out of 3 blackouts remarkably well.

My country would be a string of islands like the Phillipines. I would run it like a cult, like this one http://adidam.org/adidam/mission/index.html
Having your own cult is better than having your own country.

You can tell alot about a society by the way they act when the lights go out. When the lights went out in Iraq, looting was the first thing that took place. Not only did the citizens pillage Hussein's palaces, they also destroyed each other's property as well. This is very hypocritical considering the Muslim/Arab world considers itself to be so civilized.
The logic of the Iraqis and the Arab world is so twisted. Even after destroying each other's homes and sabotaging their own infrastructure, the Iraqi's now want to stand up against their own liberators, the Americans - when they couldn't stand up to their own tormentor, Saddam Hussein.
Now that we've given them their freedom, they decide to riot, protest and ambush American soldiers? Where was their bravery when Saddam was brutalizing their country? If the Iraqi's really care about the welfare of their nation, why can't they work alongside the Americans, who have brought Democracy to them? Why can't they face their hardships the way we have this past weekend?
During the worst blackout in U.S. history, we proved that the American way of life doesn't stop when the lights go out. In NYC, Americans looked out for one another, handing out water, even sneakers to those walking the long miles home. The lights may have been missing, but American dignity and rule of law was there the whole time - something those desert nations can use plenty of.

These claims have been around for decades, but no one has ever been convicted of kidnapping for a Satanic or a pedophile cult.

Here's a more important question: DOES YOUR MAN KNOW YOU WANT TO GET PREGNANT?
If he doesn't know, than chances are the sauce is all over sheets, and not on you.

I hate to say this, but your friend can count on being divorced within a year or two. Her friends and family will not have anything to do with him and they will not treat his wife with the same dignity as before. They will not be invited to social gatherings. In a short, they will live a life of isolation in and out of the Org. The reasons are:
a) She will not have anything to do with his 'worldly' friends, traditions, habits.
b) He is not going to be with her during field service, the meetings or any other JW activities (this is one of the reasons why JWs commit adultery - 'loneliness in the truth')
Before long, he will realize that her priority is the WTS and not him or their relationship. I've seen several mixed JW marriages like this and they rarely last.

Why Do JWs Only Preach In Poor/Middle Class Neighborhoods?
by Latin assassin from Manhattan inas my name suggests, i'm from nyc.
i've lived in every borough of new york and spent time at most of the local congregations until i finally decided that it was all for nothing (my recent posts on this forum explain why).
during this time, i noticed an interesting pattern - the jws only preach in poor to middle class neighborhoods.

RunningMan,
The J-Dubs specifically targent less afluent neighborhoods. That's why you don't see them street witnessing along Park Avenue or even Broadway. Broadway is the most populated avenue in all NYC, doesn't it make sense to place magazines there? Give me one logical reason for them not being there, even though they have a kingdom hall exactly 1 mile away?

Should JW's hold government jobs ???
by run dont walk ini finally made it onto the new board, took awhile but i'm back, .
interesting question came up, if jw's do not support any government, do not honor government beliefs, do not stand for the flag, do not celebrate countries holidays, should a jw have a government job, regardless of what it is ???.
isn't working for them, still supporting them in a small way ???.

I think that JWs should not be allowed to hold government jobs of any kind. They conveniently twist the scriptures in their favor but they don't realize that Daniel and Joseph held high positions in their government. These were men with positions that can easily be likened to U.S. presidential cabinet positions - these positions clearly support the political and military policies of the government.
It's not possible for a J-Dub to work at the U.S. Post office or even for the Internal Revenue Service without supporting Democracy and the military. After all, both of these protect the freedom of such agencies - not God (according to J-Dubs right?).
